Chief Development Manager

Exciting, executive-level development opportunity with well-established international humanitarian organization/foundation! This is a newly-created position offering a rare opportunity to shape the future of the department and carry out a four-year strategic development plan. Some international travel is required, and diplomacy is a must. Ideal candidates will have progressive experience in development at the strategic level, including successful change management with staff and volunteers, a background in international fundraising through affiliate partners, and experience with multi-million dollar campaigns.
SALARY: $90K-$98K
RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversees all aspects of Foundation development programs, from donor cultivation to recognition. Formulates and implements strategies and framework that will maximize and increase Foundation's donation revenue using a variety of fundraising methods. Serves as primary liaison for development to Foundation's Board of Trustees, advisory committees and volunteer structure.
Manages the operations of four departments by developing schedules, assigning and monitoring work, gathering resources, implementing productivity standards and resolving operational problems.
Sets direction and manages all aspects of strategies for Foundation development and fundraising.
Analyzes costs and benefits of alternative projects and chooses those that fit Foundation objectives.
Participates on formal committees such as Development Oversight Committee and Executive Committee. Also participates with other Foundation advisory committees.
Responds to member issues related to Foundation development, including but not limited to, donations, donor relations, processing, and recognition.
Recommends and implements department plans and goals and monitors progress.
Responsible for annual $1 million department budget and manages expenses within established guidelines.
Manages six employees including recruitment, work assignments, development and performance management. In the first 1-3 years, this position will be responsible for the implementation of a reorganization which will likely include developing new positions and hiring staff to fill said positions.
Performs other responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in association/nonprofit management, business, social services or related field; Master's degree preferred.
Minimum 8 or more years professional fundraising/development experience with progressive increased responsibilities.
Minimum of 4 to 6 years of management experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develop, coordinate and evaluate all programmatic and budgetary aspects of the Development Program. 60%
Coordinate with the Executive Director and the Associate Executive Director all aspects of the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship efforts.
Research and identify new funding sources and determine strategies for approach.
Cultivate relationships with prospective and current donors.

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum 3 years' demonstrated experience in successful fundraising techniques and practices.
Minimum 1 year experience and knowledge in working with Raisers Edge fundraising software and its applications.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize in managing, coordinating and/or directing large scale activities and projects.

Opportunity International (OI) has recently retained our executive search firm to assist them in locating a Chief Information Officer.
Our client, established in 1971 and headquartered in Oak Brook, Illinois, is the world’s largest Christian microenterprise development organization. OI is dedicated to the needs and well being of the poorest of the working poor. It provides small loans—sometimes as little as $50—as well as banking, insurance, and other financial services that allow poor entrepreneurs to start or expand a business, develop a steady income, provide nutritious meals and education for their children, and create jobs for their neighbors. Last year, OI issued more than one million loans worth $466 million, helping more than 960,000 poor entrepreneurs in 28 developing countries work their way out of chronic poverty.
The individual we are seeking will report to the Chief Executive Officer. This executive will be responsible for the development and deployment of IT strategies to support the organization’s strategic plan and new initiatives to broaden the donor/recipient base, the efficient operation of all IT/IS systems to support the organization’s demonstrated growth of >25% per year, and the rationalization of Opportunity International Network’s IT systems at 45 locations worldwide, among other things.
The ideal candidate will have in excess of 15 years of experience in IT/MIS management, with at least five years at a senior IT management level (i.e., Senior Director, Vice President of IT, Chief Information Officer, or equivalent). A track record of success in developing successful IT strategies, leading IT development activities, and IT deployment for multiple sites is a requirement. A Bachelor degree in a technical discipline is required; a Master’s degree in Business or a technical discipline is a plus.
Compensation is comparable to other nonprofits and includes a solid benefits package. This is a strategic position with excellent long-term potential doing work of moral and spiritual significance.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: Under the supervision of the Director of Development, assist in implementing a comprehensive grants and public relations programs. Primary responsibility will be to manage public and private grant research, submission, reporting and cultivation; working closely with program departments, identify programs and projects that match funder guidelines; and processing, acknowledgement and tracking of all donations. Additional responsibilities to include writing of publications, newsletters, press releases and web site updates designed to meet Development Department goals.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in relevant area of study and 2+ years demonstrated successful experience writing proposals required; plus prior experience with public/private, government/corporate focused grants and gifts. Quality knowledge of the principles and practices of grant preparation and administration, plus working knowledge of the sources for funding required. Exceptional demonstrated verbal and written communication skills; proofreading and editing skills required. Proficiency in MS Office; and experience with Donor Perfect or similar software is highly desirable. Ability and willingness to travel between Chicago and Lockport Villages, as well as off-site appointments as necessary; hold a valid Illinois driver’s license with acceptable driving record and provide own reliable and insured transportation; pursuant to DCFS licensing standards submit to a full criminal background check – Drug Test. This is a full time position with a competitive salary commensurate with experience and a full benefits package.
